BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — A 8-year-old kid is being accused of beating a 1-year-old young lady to death while they were allowed home to sit unbothered as their moms went to a club, Alabama police said Tuesday.

Birmingham police representative Sean Edwards said the kid beat and slaughtered 1-year-old Kelci Lewis when she wouldn't quit crying. The mother of the baby, 26-year-old Katerra Lewis, additionally is accused of murder for her part in the demise of her little girl.

"This is by a long shot one of the saddest cases that I have seen and been a part of since I turned into a cop," Edwards said. "This sort of flippancy in the interest of a guardian is absolutely inadmissible," he said.
