In a meeting with the BBC sports editorial manager Dan Roan, the Real Madrid forward said he had come to a level from where it is "difficult to make strides".
The Portuguese, 30, is a three-time world footballer of the year, and Real's unequaled driving goalscorer.
He said: "I don't have to say 'I'm ever, I'm a legend'. The numbers say everything."
Ronaldo, who joined Real from Manchester United in 2009 for £80m, said he had come to a "staggering" level on the pitch over the "most recent eight years" and needs to keep playing for another five or six seasons.
His profession record remains at 504 objectives in 760 appearances
