Jenson Button was an empowering third speediest for McLaren-Honda, in front of Toro Rosso's Max Verstappen.

Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel were fifth and 6th, well over a second down on Mercedes.

Advanced scope and sound analysis of Sunday's race is live on the Sport site.

Ferrari stressed over motor unwavering quality?

Vettel was 0.218secs off Raikkonen and 1.6secs behind Rosberg in the wake of conceding he "fouled up" his best lap with various mistakes.

There was very little confirmation that Ferrari may have the capacity to take the battle to Mercedes this weekend, with the Italian autos lingering some route behind the silver ones for by far most of the day.
