The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, today made banks and Nigerians aware of be careful with fake monetary orders, particularly higher groups presently spent in food markets and other business centers in the country.
As per Summit Bank, it is an offense deserving of detainment for any individual to adulterate, make, or fake any monetary certificate or coin gave by the CBN.
CBN unveiled this in an explanation endorsed by its Acting Chief, Corporate Correspondences, Mrs. Sidi Ali, Hakama.
CBN said, "The consideration of the CBN has been attracted to the course of fake banknotes, particularly higher divisions, by certain people for exchanges in food markets and other business places across significant urban communities in the country.
"For the evasion of uncertainty, Segment 20(4) of the CBN Act (2007), as revised, states that it will be an offense deserving of a term of detainment of at least 5 years for any individual to misrepresent, make, or fake any monetary certificate or coin gave by the Bank which is lawful delicate in Nigeria.
"The CBN is in consistent joint effort with pertinent security and monetary offices to seize counterfeit Naira banknotes, capture and arraign forgers.
"Individuals from people in general are likewise urged to report anybody associated with having fake naira notes to the closest police headquarters, part of the CBN or by means of contactcbn@cbn.gov.ng.
“In addition, all Deposit Money Banks, Financial Houses, and Bureau de Changes, as well as the general public, are urged to increase their level of vigilance and take any and all necessary precautions to prevent counterfeit notes from being accepted and distributed.
