The masked Islamic State militant known as "Jihadi John", who has been pictured in the videos of the beheadings of Western hostages, has been named.

He is Mohammed Emwazi, a Kuwaiti-born British man in his mid-20s from west London, who was previously known to British security services.
British police declined to comment, citing ongoing investigations.
Emwazi first appeared in a video last August, when he apparently killed the US journalist James Foley.
He was later thought to have been pictured in the videos of the beheadings of US journalist Steven Sotloff, British aid worker David Haines, British taxi driver Alan Henning, and American aid worker Abdul-Rahman Kassig, also known as Peter.

A British charity boss who abused Kenyan street children after luring them to his home has been jailed for more than 17 years.

Harris, of Pudleston, near Leominster, was head of charity VAE, which placed volunteers in Kenyan schools.
He was convicted of eight counts of indecent and sexual assault, at Birmingham Crown Court in December.
The case is believed to be the first time a British national has been convicted of sex offences committed abroad, under legislation that allows prosecutions to be brought if the crime is also recognised in the country in which it took place.
Harris was also convicted of four counts of possessing indecent images of children.
He was, however, cleared of 10 further charges, including rape.
The jury failed to reach a verdict on one remaining count of rape and the judge discharged them of their duty in relation to that.
Harris, a former classics teacher, had preyed on "very small children who have no families, nobody to look after them... sheltering in doorways" with the promise of food and shelter, the jury heard.
Judge Phillip Parker QC described him as "intelligent" and "charismatic", giving him "a veneer of respectability", which enabled him to design his life to be close to boys.
In Kenya, Harris had assumed a "hallowed" position, accountable to no-one, that allowed him to abuse street children who were amongst the most vulnerable in the world, the judge said.

The Backstreet Boys on fame, friendships and families

Backstreet Boys have been together for more than 20 years, sold 130 million records, going gold and platinum in 46 countries, and have a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame.
Now they have a put together a documentary about their careers - called Show 'Em What You're Made Of.

A former nurse who admitted killing more than 30 patients with lethal drug overdoses has been jailed for life by a court in northern Germany.

identified as Niels H, 38, was convicted of two counts of murder and attempted murder.
He told the court last week he had acted on impulse and apologised to the victims' relatives.
The deaths took place at the Delmenhorst clinic, where he worked in intensive care between 2003 and 2005.
The former nurse was accused of injecting patients with a medication that should only be used under strict supervision of doctors because it can trigger fatal cardiovascular reactions.
Prosecutors at the district court of Oldenburg said he had been bored and had wanted to practise his - as he himself described them - "excellent" resuscitation skills. If his first attempt at resuscitation was successful, they said, he would sometimes make a second attempt.
A senior doctor heard earlier on in the trial described Niels H as a "passionate medic" who had made a good impression on staff at the clinic.
Doctors did notice, however, that he always seemed to be around when patients were being resuscitated, often assisting junior doctors with the procedure, he added.

Madonna Falls Off Stage at the BRIT Awards

She took a nasty tumble on Wednesday (Feb. 25) during her performance at the 2015 BRIT Awards.
At the beginning of her routine, a dancer tried to remove the long cape she was wearing, causing the 56-year-old pop star to fall backwards down a flight of stairs. After a few seconds, she recovered and continued singing her new single, “Living for Love.”
Shortly after her performance, Madonna wrote on Instagram, “Armani hooked me up! My beautiful cape was tied too tight! But nothing can stop me and love really lifted me up! Thanks for your good wishes! I’m fine!”

Prince Harry The royal made his way to the northern England to Support Endangered Species and Military Veterans

Prince Harry isn’t laying low after being shot down by Emma Watson (sigh). The royal made his way to the northern most point of England for two very different, but very important engagements.
The 30-year-old prince paid a visit to the Northumberland Wildlife Trust to learn about their Red Squirrels Northern England project, which works to conserve the endangered species’ population and oversee grey squirrel control.
After taking in the natural beauty, Prince Harry dropped by Avondale House in Byker, a project that provides high-quality housing for military veterans. There, he spoke with former soldier Peter Foggin, who described the royal as “one of us.” He said, “He came in here and was just like one of the lads, he has been through the same stuff as us. He was like just another person

How i Feel About Lady Gaga Says Madonna

Madonna is the red-lipped, cat-eyed face of Rolling Stone's March 2015 issue. In the mag, she gets candid about her true feelings towards Lady Gaga, Kanye West and more.
When asked about Lady Gaga, the 56-year-old said, “I don’t think she wants my crown. We live in a world where people like to pit women against each other. And this is why I love the idea of embracing other females who are doing what I’m doing.”
She also addressed comparisons between her 1989 single, "Express Yourself" and Mother Monster's 2011 hit, "Born This Way." “The only time I ever criticized Lady Gaga was when I felt like she blatantly ripped off one of my songs," she said. "It’s got nothing to do with ‘she’s taking my crown’ or ‘she’s in some space of mine.’ She has her thing. I do think she’s a very talented singer and songwriter. It was just that one issue.”
Madonna is also a fan of controversial rapper Kanye West. “I don’t always agree with the things he says or does – I don’t always like his music, even. Be he’s a beautiful mess. I love him,” she gushed.

A 47-year-old man has been jailed for life for murdering a Flintshire woman he met on a dating website

mother of -two Karen Catherall, 45, was found strangled and with head injuries at her home at Gwernaffield, near Mold, on 14 September, 2014.
Last December, Darren Jeffreys, from Mold, admitted killing his girlfriend.
Sentencing at Mold Crown Court, Mr Justice Wyn Williams said it was "senseless violence fuelled by alcohol and your possessive jealous nature".
Jeffreys must serve a minimum of 17-and-a-half years.
The court heard Ms Catherall and Jeffreys began a relationship a few months after meeting on the Plenty of Fish website and had been seeing each other for a few weeks.
The prosecution said Ms Catherall had spent the morning of 13 September with her former sister-in-law at the Wetherspoons pub in Mold where she drank cider and they ate breakfast.
She told the other woman Jeffreys was a "nice man, but possessive".
The court heard she was a "robust woman" and "did not seem afraid of him".
She continued drinking with her nephew and was joined by Jeffreys, and when they moved to another pub she told her nephew to be careful what he said because Jeffreys was a "jealous man".
Her nephew took her home and left her around 19:00 BST "in good spirits".
The court heard Jeffreys arrived shortly afterwards and subjected her to a "ferocious, sustained, and in the end deadly attack" which caused substantial internal and external injuries probably caused by very hard punches.
There was evidence he tried to cover what he had done but eventually rang the emergency services at 02:35 BST.
Mr Justice Wyn Williams said: "The prosecution say that you literally battered her to death.
"In my judgment that is an appropriate description for what happened that night."
Charges of assaulting four ex-partners were left on file. All described him as jealous, possessive and volatile.
In a victim impact statement, Ms Catherall's mother said her daughter "always had time for people, always had a smile".
In a statement made outside court on behalf of the family, Det Insp Mark Hughes said of Jeffreys: "We hope he is haunted by his actions for the rest of his life.
"He took away a mother from her two sons and all our lives have been affected by his selfish and evil actions.

A commuter train and a truck have collided, causing three carriages to derail northwest of Los Angeles.

Police in Oxnard, California, say the crash was first reported at 05:44 local time (13:44 GMT).
A helicopter from a local television station showed emergency responders treating multiple people.
A spokesman for the Ventura County Fire Department told the BBC that it is believed no one had died in the accident.
Captain Mike Lindbery said the train was carrying 51 passengers, and 28 of those were transported to several local hospitals.
The driver of the truck that collided with the train fled the scene, and was "taken into custody south of the scene less than a mile," Capt Lindbery said.
The locomotive had a camera on the lead carriage, footage from which will be used in the investigation.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the agency that leads transport investigations for the US government, said in a tweet, "NTSB launching team to rail accident in Oxnard, CA. More details to come."
Aerial footage from the scene shows multiple emergency vehicles at the scene, with several fire fighters and paramedics moving people into ambulances.
One carriage can be seen overturned and laying partially in a nearby highway. Two others were overturned laying parallel to each other, and a fourth remains upright.
In a nearby intersection, the burnt-out shell of a truck can be seen with remnants of fire extinguishing foam.
The train was destined for Los Angeles, and crashed about 65 miles (100 kilometres) away from its destination.
A Metrolink train collided with a freight train in 2008 in another part of southern California, killing 25 people and injuring more.

The 2022 World Cup in Qatar should take place in November and December, a Fifa taskforce has recommended.

Key football officials met in Doha to discuss a number of options following fears a summer event would endanger the health of players and fans.
Summer temperatures in Qatar can exceed 40C while those in November-December drop to the mid-20s.
Tuesday's recommendation is expected to be ratified by Fifa's executive committee in Zurich on 19 and 20 March.
Taskforce chief Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al-Khalifa also recommended that the 2022 tournament should be shortened by a few days.
But there are no plans to reduce the size of the tournament from 32 teams or 64 matches.
The news will upset some of Europe's top leagues, who preferred an April-May option to minimise disruption to their own domestic programmes.
Peter Coates, chairman on English Premier League side Stoke City, described the situation as a "disaster"

US and British intelligence agencies hacked into a major manufacturer of Sim cards in order to steal codes that facilitate eavesdropping on mobiles, a US news website says.

The Intercept says the revelations came from US intelligence contractor turned whistleblower Edward Snowden.
The Dutch company allegedly targeted - Gemalto - says it is taking the allegations "very seriously".
It operates in 85 countries and has more than 40 manufacturing facilities.
The Intercept says that "the great Sim heist" gave US and British surveillance agencies "the potential to secretly monitor a large portion of the world's cellular communications, including both voice and data".
It says that among the clients of the Netherlands-based company are AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint and "some 450 wireless network providers around the world".
Full investigation The Intercept alleges that the hack organised by Britain's GCHQ and the US National Security Agency (NSA) began in 2010, and was organised by operatives in the "Mobile Handset Exploitation Team". Neither agency has commented directly on the allegations.
However GCHQ reiterated that all its activities were "carried out in accordance with a strict legal and policy framework which ensures that our activities are authorised, necessary and proportionate".

How does the hack work?
Each Sim card has an individual encryption key, installed by the chip manufacturer, that secures communications between the handset in which it inserted and mobile phone masts.
This means that if anyone were to snoop on conversations or text messages, they would receive garbled, unintelligible data.
That is, of course, unless those carrying out the surveillance get hold of the encryption key. With that information, they can even decrypt previously intercepted communications.
However, this tactic only works for phone conversations and text messages. Communications through mobile applications such as Whatsapp, iMessage and many email services have separate encryption systems.
line break
The stolen encryption allowed the agencies to decode data that passes between mobile phones and cell towers. They were able to decrypt calls, texts or emails intercepted out of the air.
A Gemalto spokeswoman said the company was unable to verify whether there had indeed been a breach, and highlighted that other Sim manufacturers could also have been targeted.
She added: "We take this publication very seriously and will devote all resources necessary to fully investigate and understand the scope of such highly sophisticated techniques to try to obtain Sim card data".

Fears are growing for the safety of three east London schoolgirls who police believe are trying to cross the Turkish-Syrian border to join the Islamic State terrorist group.

Shamima Begum, 15, Kadiza Sultana, 16 and their unnamed 15-year-old friend flew from Gatwick to Turkey on Tuesday.
Police have issued an urgent appeal for help in finding them, suggesting they are "extremely vulnerable".
The trio are friends with a fourth girl who travelled to Syria in December.
Abdul Samid, a parent governor at Bethnal Green Academy, which all four girls attended, said there was "absolutely not" any radicalisation at the school.
"I'm 100% confident - with the head and the senior leadership team and the whole school - that we've done everything to put in measures that safeguard all the children that attend the school," he said.
He said he did not believe the girls were trying to get to Syria.
"I still don't believe that they are going anywhere other than a holiday - because this is how they were dressed and this is how they looked and this is how they packed," he added.
'Grave danger' However, Metropolitan Police Commander Richard Walton said he believed the girls intended to travel to Syria, where they would be "in grave danger".
He said he hoped they would "hear our concerns for their safety and have the courage to return now, back to their families who are so worried about them."
Police hope the girls may still be in Turkey, as severe winter weather is currently affecting transport links in the country.

Liberia is to reopen its borders following a reduction in the number of Ebola cases being reported in the country.

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf made the announcement on Friday and said nationwide curfews would also be lifted.
New infections have dropped to one-tenth of the level seen when the virus was at its peak.
But health officials warned the decline has levelled off in the last month.
Dr Bruce Aylward, who leads the World Health Organization's official Ebola response, said data showed the steep decrease in infections had now flattened, at a rate of around 120 to 150 new cases a week.
"It's what keeps me up at night right now," Mr Aylward said. "This is not what you want to see with Ebola."
More than 9,300 people have died since the outbreak of the virus early last year.
However, Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone have pledged to achieve zero Ebola infections within the next two months.
Liberia was hardest-hit by the outbreak, but has been leading the recovery, with only two confirmed cases in the week leading to 12 February. This compares to 74 in Sierra Leone and 52 in Guinea.
In a statement on her website, President Johnson Sirleaf said "health protocols" would prevent the virus being carried across the country's borders when they reopen on Sunday.
Borders were closed last year and an overnight curfew imposed as part of a state of emergency.
Schools in Liberia have also reopened in recent weeks in a bid to help the country return to normal.
Staff have been given thermometers to take pupils' temperatures and buckets of chlorinated water for them to wash their hands.
